LOCAL
HEROES AWARDS from Arun District Council
Selfless
heroes who tirelessly serve their villages
and towns were honoured with awards this
year in recognition of their efforts. Hard
working charity fundraisers and kind-hearted
volunteers and groups who have all given
so much for others took centre stage at
the Arun Chairman’s Community Hero
Awards on Thursday night.
Due
to ill health, Council Chairman Dennis Wilde
was unable to attend and the ceremony was
conducted by Arun’s Vice Chairman
Ann Smee. Guests
included district and town Councillors,
the Leader and Deputy Leader of the Council,
Cabinet Members, three former Chairmen of
Arun District Council and Bognor Regis Town
Mayor.
All
gathered in Arun’s Council Chamber
to celebrate the outstanding efforts of
the seven award winners.
None
had asked for or even expected public thanks
for their efforts but, Vice Chairman Councillor
Smee told guests that it was only right
their tireless devotion and self sacrifice
was recognised. Councillor Smee said: “What
an incredible evening and a privilege to
recognise those people who aren’t
normally recognised. I was delighted to
be involved and meet such inspiring people
who think nothing of their efforts.”
Arun
District Council’s Chief Executive
Ian Sumnall introduced each of the winners,
who were presented witn special trophies
by Cllr Smee. Ian
said: “It’s always an honour
to meet so many people dedicated to helping
others, whether that’s their community
or charity. “I
am delighted, as always, to be involved
in this event and inspired by the stories
I heard. Our seven award winners are a shining
example of the type of people who help make
Arun the great district it is.”
